Economic stimulus- Our day in the sun?

How will the new economic stimulus package effect the construction industry? Very well I think if we are ready for a little enlightenment and willing to make some changes. Those of us in the industry will need a new mindset including and a new tool set. Those who embrace these will do very well.

There will be opportunities to add local power generation to homes generally on the higher end. Systems like solar and geothermal. This can stimulate huge numbers of jobs if we take advantage of the opportunities.

There will be opportunities to do the same thing in a collaborative way for cities and towns. Even better resources can be combined to create communities that share the benefits of solar and wind generation. The new model will be decentralization. One hidden benefit will be the added security of not relying on central power generation and distribution. It will be much harder for terrorist to attack a decentralized power grid.

We will need new information distributed to the masses on how to design and implement these new systems. We will need to train electricians and plumbers on the installation and integration of these new systems. We will also need new service people to manage these new systems.

Finally, as more and more of these systems are designed and installed, we will see the benefits of lower costs as manufactures compete and new more efficient systems come to market.

This is the direction of our future. The time is now to embrace it. The time is now to get ready to benefit from the new enconomic stimulus.
